M.A.P. to launch Pan African Percussion Album
‘Music According to Percussion’ is a project that was founded by Othnell Mangoma Moyo in collaboration with Osborne Matengenzara, Humphrey Domboka, Hari Sadja and Abel Maunga.
The first Volume is a six tracked album that has percussion styles adapted from Senegal, Mali, Cuba, Peru, Mozambique and Reunion Island. The multi-cultural album includes a tutorial song based on eight Zimbabwean folk Percussion styles and songs; the second volume has rhythms and melodies adapted from the Shangana people,Senegal,Cuba, Burkina Faso,Mali, Ndebele ,Zulu, Shona and Tuku Music
“Most of the time we have Piano players or other instrumentalists as Music Directors, ‘Music According to Percussion’ is a project that is directed by a Percussionist and is Percussion driven”enthused Bulawayo born Percussionist and Drum maker, Othnell Mangoma Moyo.
The ‘Music According to Percussion’ project is has album divided into two volumes. A first for the Zimbabwean Music industry the Percussion driven project features live recordings with nearly twenty musicians, including Drummers, Percussionists, Bass players, Guitarists and Vocalists.
The launch will be hosted in Harare sees Mangoma launch new instruments the ‘Tunable Ngoma’ and the ‘Nguboyenja’ Snare drum on the 3rd of September 2016 at the Zimbabwe German Society.
