Harare bases based jazz musicians will as from this weekend launch Jazz on Sunday in Theatre in The Park in Harare Gardens.
The jazz reincarnation is set to be a weekly treat for jazz lovers.
Jazz crooner Filbert Marowa said they have chosen this venue because it is centrally located and it's a family friendly space.
“In the month of May, we are featuring different artists celebrating music from various jazz legends such as: Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Dave Brubeck, Ray Charles, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Django Reinhadt, Jimmy Dludlu, Themba Mkhize and Moses Molelekwa.
“There will be a different theme for each Sunday.
The first show will see Clancy Mbirimi, Friday Mbirimi & Raven Duchess Filbert & Friends and the group will feature ragtime, blues and swing from Lois Armstrong, frank Sinatra, NatKing Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone
Rooftop Promotions producer Daves Guzha said jazz on Sunday is one of the special events that will be happening at the iconic venue as shown on the Jakwara official opening day performances which had all artists from performing artist, poets, dance and musicians.
“As theatre in the park we are happy that music that caters for the mature has found a slot in our programming and we are pleased having such a line up of great Zimbabwean artiste coming to perform here.
Sunday for senior citizens and jazz lovers will never be the same again.
We are also filling the gap that has been left by other venues that has either re located or changed their template following the new trends.
To date the venue has seen performing artists such from various genres such as theatre, poetry and stand-up comedy having time of the new stage
